Starting Pistol for Hire

An athletics starting pistol is used within the percussion section sometimes as a loud version of a popgun but mainly as a modern percussion effect. The effect is somewhat limited however to the number of shots that the pistol can hold. This is generally six and pieces written with more shots than this will require more than one pistol as re-loading is a laborious and time consuming task. In some occasions the blanks in the pistol fail to go off leading to embarrassment, as it is impossible to know before pulling the trigger what will happen.
