(1899-1940)
Silvestre Revueltas was born in Santiago Papasquiaro, Mexico in 1899. From the tender age of 8, he studied violin and in 1913 was a student in Mexico City for three years adding composition to his studies. From 1916-1918 Revueltas was student at St Edward College in Austin, Texas and then in 1918 moved to Chicago and it’s prestigious Musical College from 1918-1920. In 1924 Revueltas became friends with the your pianist Carlos Chavez and together they carried out several recital series in their home country of Mexico. Silvestre Revueltas was most industrious during the last decade of his life. Following an acrimonious split with Chavez in 1936, he left the Qrquesta Sinfonica de Mexico and formed in his own orchestra in competition, the Qrquesta Sinfonica Nacional. This failed after a short period of time. Silvestre Revueltas died at the age of 40 from pneumonia.
